Tigers Welcome back several Key Players

Aviva Premiership Rugby Union club the Leicester Tigers were given a huge fitness boost ahead of their scheduled Heineken Cup encounter against French side Toulouse with news that back rower Steve Mafi is back to full fitness and ready to play a part in the game. The Tongan flanker had to sit out of The Tigers’ last two games with injury after being taken off in the second half in their match against Harlequins FC on the 22nd of September.

Murphy to Retire at the End of the Season

Geordan Murphy, the former full back for the Ireland Rugby Team and the current captain of the Aviva Premiership Rugby Union side the Leicester Tigers has revealed that this current season of the Aviva Premiership will be his last as a player as he plans to hang up his boots at the end of the season. Earlier in the year, Murphy made the announcement about his international retirement so that he could concentrate on his club career with The Tigers.

Leicester Make New Signings

Leicester Tigers have roped in Richard Thorpe, the flanker from rival club London Irish. The 27 year old player has already started training with Leicester and looks ready to start the season for them. His former club and Leicester’s rivals, London Irish, will be paying a part of the player’s wages during the first season.

Richard Cockerill commented saying that he will be an extremely cost effective player for them. He said that Thorpe is a great player and has had a lot of experience in the premiership which will ensure that he get a slot almost immediately.

Richard Cockerill, the head coach at Aviva Premiership side the Leicester Tigers has stepped into the row that promises to be one of the most long drawn affairs in current memory with the London Welsh being denied promotion to play in the Aviva Premiership next season.

According to the Director of Rugby of the record Premiership champions, clubs that gain promotion from the RFU Championship to the Premiership must be allowed to compete at the very top level of rugby and to chase their dreams regardless of the condition of the grounds where they play their home matches.

LEICESTER STEP UP CONSTRUCTION

Record Aviva Premiership champions the Leicester Tigers are hopeful that they will be able to complete the building of their hotel at Welford Road by the time the Rugby World Cup 2015 hits the country.

The club is hoping that they will be able to secure permission for their grand plan of building the 140 room, four star hotel on the old region of the Granby Hills by the start of the tournament.

COCKERILL UNHAPPY WITH SALARY CAP

Cockerill, the director of the Leicester Tiger’s rugby association has made a statement saying that the salary cap imposed on most of the European clubs has resulted in a loss of the competitive spirit among the players of the various clubs.

This statement came immediately after the tigers lost to Ulster and did not manage to make it to the Heineken Cup.
